Education

Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. College/Vocational courses/Associates degree preferred.

Certifications

Preferred certifications include ACI Level I, MDOT Density Technology Certification, Michigan Concrete Field Testing-MCA level 1 or above, and NICET Level II.

Technical Experience

  • Field experience in concrete, soils and pavement testing and inspection preferred
  • Willingness and ability to review activities on construction sites
  • Demonstrate ability to make preliminary evaluations and provide opinions (cause and corrective action) on tasks/problems to NTH’s Project Engineer and/or Project Manager
  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications, and other construction documents preferred

Key Job Elements

In this role you will:

  • Complete and submit accurate Daily Field Reports.
  • Perform routine tasks, tests, and computations associated with construction materials testing and field observations under the supervision of the Project Engineer/Project Manager. This will include sampling and testing of concrete, soils, asphalt, and other construction materials on construction projects.
  • Assist engineering staff with field monitoring activities.
  • Independently operate relevant testing/monitoring equipment.
  • Perform other tasks, as necessary.

  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills, be able to work in a team environment as well as independently, team-oriented approach to problem-solving, and have strong interpersonal skills for contact with clients and fellow engineers/technicians
  • Accuracy, dependability, and strong organizational skills
  • Exceptional time management skills, ability to manage multiple assignments at any given time, and have ability to work in a team environment
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance, as well as good driving record, to operate company vehicle
  • Ability to interact with existing clients to understand their needs
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects for multiple project managers within budgets and deadlines

Work Environment / Physical Demands

  • May be required to perform job duties in the field and office, during non-standard work hours, as necessary
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • May be required to enter and work within confined spaces, once appropriately trained
